For semester long senior thesis project in the fall spring of 2017, I wanted try ride design. I wanted to look at can a dark ride tell the story of a mature novel and can the characters of that novel be in the ride vehicle with the riders? I created a concept for a dark ride based on the 1925 book by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby. I choose The Great Gatsby because I wanted to use a timeless story line with an iconic vehicle and The Great Gatsby fit the bill.
Before I can design the ride I had to look a the source material. I watch every film adaptation and reread the book to get the information that I need.
